Trainer Dawn Brancheau’s death at SeaWorld Orlando brought cries from animal-rights activists that keeping orcas in captivity is cruel to the animals and dangerous for the handlers. What do you think?
The activists are wrong. Trainers and orcas have worked together countless times with very few incidents. We should not overreact to this case, no matter how tragic. (14211 responses)
The activists are right. These creatures should be free, not kept in tanks and trained to perform tricks. (19095 responses)
The activists have a point. But the animals at SeaWorld live in luxury compared with creatures in the wild, and they perform a valuable service by increasing our knowledge and appreciation of orcas. (8699 responses)
