While NASA cements plans to send a manned mission to Mars in the 2030s, a Copenhagen-based architect is presenting a proposal that could place future homes here on Earth deep inside an iceberg.

David A. Garcia is the founder of MAP Architects, a firm that focuses on “challenging environments” including flood-prone areas and the frigid, icy arctic.

As research, and even tourism, leads more people to Antarctica, Garcia and his team were intrigued by the idea of creating living spaces that suited the region.
